7.24.2007 HATCHET took home the 'Festival d'or' (Gold Prize) for BEST EUROPEAN OR NORTH AMERICAN PICTURE at this summer's Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, Canada. The honor is awarded by the audience, which makes it the most covetted prize a film can win at a festival. 7.9.2007 HATCHET brought the house down in Montreal this past weekend at it's Canadian premiere at the Fantasia Film festival. Fans lined up over 700 deep down the street and filled the enormous theater, literally sitting in the aisles. The film finished with TWO standing ovations. (A festival first!) The first standing ovation came after the credits had rolled and the second standing ovation came after Green told his emotional and inspirational story of how he got the film made. Green plans to tell the story again, live at Comic-Con in San Diego on July 26th when he will be joined on stage by a very 'special guest'.
7.3.2007 Actress Joleigh Fioreavanti will now be joining Adam Green and Robert Englund at Chicago's Flashback Weekend horror convention July 20-22nd. The trio will be presenting clips from HATCHET before the nightly outdoor screenings and doing a full presentation on the film during the weekend's panels. From Anchor Bay Entertainment: Today the MPAA officially gave HATCHET an "R" rating, thus eliminating any rumors or speculation that the original "NC-17" rating would effect the upcoming national theatrical run. The "R" rating is for "Strong bloody horror violence, sexual content, nudity and language". After a 2 month long process involving an appeal and multiple submissions to the ratings board, the film is finally in it's home stretch. From writer/director Adam Green: "A big Thanks to everyone for their continued support and enthusiasm. Mainstream Hollywood claims that the fans will only support remakes and PG-13 horror at the box office these days. I hope that on September 7th we prove them wrong." Hodder: I did do the movie Hatchet over the summer, which turned out to be the best horror movie I've ever been in. I play Victor Crowley, an Elephant Man-like character who does some brutal killing, but what sets this movie apart from other horror movies is the writing. Unbelievably enough, the writing is so well done, as are the acting performances — two things you wouldn't expect to find in a low-budget horror movie. Add the horror element with some unbelievably creative kills, which I always like, and you get a really, really good movie.
